Genesis 1 - 2 Billingham Crusaders

It was the quaterfinals of the national christian cup. After a jovial journey up in the minibus we had some time to warm up and get used to the rubber crumb surface, We started with the cross bar challenge. After several dissapointing efforts Steve Meadwell stepped up and struck the bar with ease. He was cajouled to try again and yes he hit the cross bar again absolutely square. That was all the warm up we needed.
We started very well and had time and space to move the ball around and get into some good positions. We eventually got the deserved break after Steve Meadwell nodded in from a cross from Alex. 1-0 and looking very strong. Unfortunately we didn't capitalise on other chances we had and finished the half 1-0 up. In the second half Billingham came out stronger, they put us under more pressure and some cracks started to develop. Jez gave away a penalty with 15mins to go which they equalised from. Genesis continued to have good chances at the other end but struggled to make them count. With 7mins to go a Billingham player volleyed the ball from outside the box straight into the top corner. Gutted 2-1 down. After a couple of last ditch attempts the ref finally blew and we were out of the cup. Absolutely gutted. We were by far the better team which both teams accpeted. Thats football!!
