Genesis 1st 5 - 2 The Railway
2nd round of the Cobbin Cup presented us with the challenge of the Railway. Before the ball was kicked the ref was close to giving a yellow card to one of their players for swearing - a sign of things to come. As per Genesis tradidtion we gave the Railway a goal in the first 10mins just to make a game of it. We got one back through Ross Patman from a tight angle. The railway came back again and went ahead. Genesis kept their heads and Steve Meadwell tucked his 4th of the season away with a nice header. In the second half things started to hot up. Jez went round a defender and put Genesis back in the lead with a class goal into the corner. Ross then put his second away and we pulled away from Railway. More frustration crept in and the Railway started to loose it. more yellow cards, bad tacles and swearing eventually lead to a red card which was shortly followed by another red card and more yellows. Genesis responded in great fashion by not reacting and I'm proud that we didn't pick up one yellow in the whole match. A credit to our team and the way we play our football. Ross got his hat-trick with a great 3rd goal and was voted man of the match. A gr5eat win that puts us through to the next round.
Genesis Res 3 - 2 Greenhill
What a game. After last weeks lack lustre performance the 2nds showed great bouncebackability against a Greenhill side previously undefeated. The reserves started brightly passing the ball around well clearly to the frustration of the Greenhill players. After about 20 minutes the ball went out for a Greenhill goal kick and as John Daniels jogged back he was shoved needlessly by the Greenhill captain, the ref had the guts to award the penalty which Daniels duly converted, his 4th penalty in 3 games. 15 minutes later Mike Ginn flicked on Steve 'the cat' Strakers kick out which Daniels raced onto to put Genesis 2 up. Just before the half time whistle Ben Bishop in a valient attempt to cut out a through ball toed the ball to give Greenhill hope, 2 1 at half time and Greenhill hadnt had a shot. The 2nd half equally high tempo with the Genesis defence having a fantastic match. Then in the third minute of two added on minutes the ball ran lose in the Genesis 6 yard boxer for the Greenhill striker to riffle home. The Greenhill celebrations were short lived though. When Straker unlessed another giant kick down field, Hattersley on for Ginn at half time won the flick on for John Daniels to complete his hat-trik rounding the keeper to tap in to set off wild celebrations by the Genesis Players and record attendance support.
