Genesis 1st 2 - 2 Radmoor
A minging day, wet and windy yet the pitch was in really good condition. Radmoor were a good team who started well and created some good chances but after a ball from Marco to Ryan just outside the box, Ryan curled it into the top corner leaing the keeper no chance. Radmoor came back and scored two in the first half. 2-1 down at half time, but we'd been playing well and into the wind. In the second half the wind had died down but we put Radmoor under a lot of pressure in the first 15mins. And after a shot from Tyler that the keeper fumbled, Parker followed up to bring us level at 2-2. The rest of the second half was very open with both teams having some good chances. A great save from Euan and clearance from Sam kept us in the game. Unfortunately we couldn't finish any of our chances and the game finished 2-2. A decent point but we were definately looking for the win and were unlucky. MOM went to Ryan Patman.
Genesis 2nds 2 - 1 East Leak Res
A wet and miserable miserable (yes it was pretty miserable) saturday afternoon and the Genesis Reserves were looking to end a 6 game losing streak playing against East leake. There was a feeling of confidence in the air despite previous results and a re-appearance of Wiggins in goal strengthened the already strong looking squad.
The game started well and surprisingly the Fortress pitch was holding up well with Paskinho predictions of a pitch comparable with a christmas pudding way off the mark. But hey, back to the football, Genesis settled early and started passing the ball around to great effective, Andy Curran and Nige linking up well with Ross to create some early chances. East Leake weren't really showing much up front and their defence looked weak if put under pressure. Some good chances created first half and a couple of shots from Nige from just outside the box were starting to make the East leake keeper sweat. Half time talk was for more of the same and the boys duely delivered. After some good battling in the midfield a long through ball by ???? (who's gonna claim that assist?) got through the legs of the defender and arrived at Nige's feet. Off Nige charged towards the keeper, some quick feet and round the keeper he went to bury the ball in the net, 1-0 (and the first time the reserves had taken the lead for donkeys years).
Some more good pressure followed but to no avail and then a real blow. With East Leake coming more into the game and looking stronger in midfield Genesis gave away a penalty for a trip in the box. Their striker duely despatched it despite a valliant effort from Wiggins and 1-1 it was. Further pressure followed from East leake but some good defending from the back four and quality solid goalkeeping from Wiggins in very poor conditions kept the scores level.
Genesis began to gain the advantage again, the ball broke loose in midfield and Chris Blount put the ball into the box early from the right wing with a thunderous cross, then out of the mud Nige rose like a salmon to get his head on it and fire a bullet header into the roof of the net!!! Nige got so excited his shirt came off and the inevitable pile-on in the mud ensued.
East leake applied pressure in the last few minutes but Genesis held strong for a thoroughly deserved victory and three valuable points. All that is left to be said is, bring on thurmaston next saturday, the Genesis are on the march again.........
