Genesis FC 4-3 Woodhouse Imperial
For the second week running Genesis faced Woodhouse: and on a better pitch than last week- with much less protuberance- a chance to improve on last week’s stalemate. Genesis started brightly, and played some nice passing football, and it wasn’t too long before we got the first- Jez popping up on the left and delivering a great cross for Gary Offord, who turned well before slotting it home. Genesis then seemed to take the foot of the gas, and it needed an equaliser and a few scares to wake us up. We ended the half well though: Marco going on a great run with a cool finish across the keeper for the second (with a far less cool celebration), and in-form Gary curling in a beautiful free-kick from the just outside the box. Second half was much the same, with Genesis playing some good and some not-so-good football. Woodhouse did come back at us to make it 3-2, but Mikey Tyler made it safe with a clinical low drive. The game still had some drama left in it though, with one unruly Genesis supporter being sent to the stands, and a late, late penalty for Woodhouse-in fact, it was nearly dark by the time the ref finally let the Woodhouse striker tuck away the ball with the last kick of the game. Jez Cromie had a great game and was M.O.M. An interesting match: Genesis march on to the next round.
