Genesis FC 3-2 Markfield

Markfield beat us in the cup several weeks ago and they are well placed in the league so we knew this was going to be a massive game. On a boggy pitch is was hard to play the normal flowing Genesis football. In the first half we went 1-0 up after a corner wasn't cleared, after several short passes around the 6 yard box, Iain Robertson eventually hit the ball into the corner. Markfield got back in the game after a good bit of play down the right and with a great cross the striker headed home. After half time Genesis continued to look strong and after a cross from Alex, Meadwell headed on goal, the keeer got something on it, but Straker was there to tuck it home. Things looked dead a buried after Patman put Chris Ford through who made the keeper feel pretty humiliated and scored a great birthday goal. But Markfield made it a tense last 15 after they got back in the game with a goal. Genesis played some sensible football and got the deserved 3 points. MoM Alex Cuthbert, a great performance.

Genesis Res 4 - 2

With a strong 12 players genesis went into the game feeling confident against a team well down the table. On a narrow, long boggy pitch playing good quality football was a challenge for both teams and the first half was a scrappy and uneventful affair. That was until Joe burst through the offside trap and was one-on-one with the keeper. His shot was half saved by the keeper, rolled towards the goal line and apparently crossed it just before being cleared – verdict? No goal awarded. No matter, shortly afterwards Curran produced a storming run into the box and was brought down for a clear pen. The ball was handed to Nige, who despatched. Probably an undeserved lead but things were about to get worse for Anstey. Nige picked the ball up on the centre and pinged a drive from fully 40 yards off the underside of the cross bar and into the net. There was talk that it had gone in off the keeper, but video evidence confirmed it went straight in. The second half started well for genesis with Jordan playing in Nige for a 3-0 lead. Anstey made a couple of useful changes and nicked a couple of goals to make Genesis nervous. Fortunately, with five minutes left Curran played in Nige who beat the offside trap and lobbed the keeper from 25 yards for his fourth. Not a great performance but job done. Assists from Curran (x2), Coward, and Jordan. The MOM was Nige.
